Weill Cornell Issues New Med Students iPad 2

In Weill Cornell Medical College (New York City), the new medical students of 2011 will be given iPad 2's for class instead of printing notes for class. I think that since we are moving towards everything being on computer based software, I would understand why this school would do such a thing.

In all honest, I personally like to write my notes by hand and have a print out copy. I could have the option to type all my notes on a laptop or an iPad, but it's something I am not comfortable with. For the future physicians this will be beneficial due to the fact that hospitals are changing from paper-based charts to computerized base charts. I support this innovation for our future medical doctors.

  1. I love having everything on my iPad 2, and I use it to take all of my notes on everyday. I also have required pharmacy textbooks on my iPad, such as the Dipiro book for TP, the stats book, and the pharmacy management book as well. There's great apps like Micromedex and Lexi-Comp that I use to look up information all the time about drugs. I upload all of the lecture notes onto my iPad and write my notes directly on there with my stylus and it saves everything. I love it because I have everything for school at hand without carrying a big binder around with all of my notes, a heavy laptop, or heavy books around in my bookbag. It really is convenient and I believe it has improved my studying and grades. I also save a lot of paper and printer ink from not having to print anymore. Another bonus is that our class lectures can be uploaded into the podcast section of the iPad, and you can watch and listen to the lectures if you feel like not reading the notes yourself. The article was good and I see the benefits of having an iPad 2, and I would definitely recommend it to others.

  2. I don't agree that all Medical student should be required to only use a iPad. I think that it should be an option for anyone to pick either the iPad or to take notes. For me, I don't like using a computer or iPad during class because I can't type as quick and if I did, I would fall behind. I like having my notes on hand and for me, I remember it better. Some people can use iPad and do amazing in school, while some people like myself would fail. I also use my iTouch during class which does the same things as the iPad, but without note taking, so I think that the school should require some sort of devise during class.

  3. I got my iPad for my birthday last month and I am still learning how to use it. But I have found really helpful apps for pharmacy school. Also, I think that having everything on my iPad would be eco-friendly which would be a very nice thing to do. But I think that having everything on my iPad would be a process for some people that don't know that much about technology. For this reason I think that they should be able to choose if they want to use a iPad or want the regular notes.
